We are now on the second trial of Isaiah 52:10. It is set within the context of redemption as recorded in Isaiah 52:9-11.
The
LORD bared His holy arm when He stretched out His arms on the Cross. That speaks of Christ crucified. On the Cross, Jesus stretched out His holy
arms to be punished for our sins. He is
the Redeemer of those in captivity. It
brings to remembrance Luke
4:18 and Luke
4:21 where Jesus of Nazareth said that “The release of captives”
was fulfilled in the “hearing and the very presence of those who hear”. When Jesus of Nazareth preached His fulfilment
of the Messianic credentials as spoken of in the Old Testament, the audience
were “In awe and wondered about the
words of grace which were coming from His lips”. Does it
not point to Romans
10:17? Faith comes from hearing
and hearing the message concerning Christ.
And what was the message concerning Christ that Jesus Christ Himself
preached? It was how He Himself has
fulfilled the Messianic credentials as written by the prophets of old.
The
reason the beloved Son of God was crucified in the flesh as Jesus the Man was
so that the salvation of God could be made available to mankind. This reminds us of the second portion of Isaiah
53:1 which says, “And to whom has
the arm and infinite power of the Lord been revealed?”
When
we look at Matthew
1:21, we see that the name Jesus means “The LORD is salvation”. In other words, Christ crucified is the
salvation of God. It is written in Isaiah
44:24, Psalm
71:6 as well as Jeremiah
1:5 that the Promised
Messiah will be called or named from His mother’s womb. This Messianic credential has been fulfilled
by the beloved Son of God in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth according to Matthew
1:21.
The
tenet of Isaiah 52:10 is:
“The salvation of God will be
revealed to the entire world”.
