We
are on the trail of Luke
22:37.
The
trail is set in the context of the impending crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth as recorded in Luke
22:35-38.
Luke
22:37 explicitly and clearly interprets Isaiah 53:12
to be referring to Jesus of Nazareth being counted with criminals, as in dying
the death of a criminal. This is yet
another instance of the Bible interpreting the Bible. It categorically verified
that the beloved Son of God in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth had fulfilled the
Isaiah 53:12 Messianic credential.
It is also recorded in Matthew
27:38 that two robbers were crucified with the beloved Son of God
as Jesus of Nazareth, one to His right, and the other, His left.
In
view of the above, the crux of Luke 22:37 is:
“Jesus of Nazareth was counted among
criminals”
