We are now at the station of Mark 1:3.  It is set in the context of the preaching of John the Baptist as recorded in Mark 1:1-8.

We have established that John the Baptist preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  It signified the preparing of the heart to receive Jesus the Messiah.

Hence, the thrust of Mark 1:3 is:

“John the Baptist announced the arrival of the Promised Messiah”.
