The seven statements are listed as follows:
There
is nothing we can ever do in and of ourselves to secure salvation. In the words
of Isaiah
64:6, “All our deeds of righteousness are like filthy rags;
soiled sanitary pads!”
Nothing is as valuable as salvation. If everything that we do cannot lead us to
salvation, then all our deeds amount to nothing. As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes
1:14 and Ecclesiastes
2:11, all the works done under the sun and the labour of our hands are
but vanity, a chasing after the wind.
As
Ephesians
2:8-9 puts it, salvation is a gift from God and not a result of what we
do but by His grace. We are saved by
grace through faith; that is, believing in the truth that Jesus, our Saviour,
has died for the forgiveness of our sins.
