The third and final track of Ephesians
6:14-16 is set in the context of the armour of God as recorded in Ephesians
6:10-17.
The context passage tells us that the
precepts of God are like the splendid armour of a heavily-armed soldier. Therefore, the armour of God
is His written word. John
17:17 says that the Word of God is truth. This is consistent with what the context
passage is saying about the precepts of God being like a piece of splendid
armour.
Metaphors
are peppered throughout this passage of scripture:
The two keywords are truth and righteousness with
the respective metaphors of belt and breastplate.
The metaphor of shoes or footwear is used for the
keyword of peace.
The keyword is faith and the metaphor is shield.
