Volume 5 4th Trailhead – 1st Trail – 3rd Track

The third and final track of Ephesians 6:14-16 is set in the context of the armour of God as recorded in Ephesians 6:10-17.

The context passage tells us that the precepts of God are like the splendid armour of a heavily-armed soldier.  Therefore, the armour of God is His written word.  John 17:17 says that the Word of God is truth.  This is consistent with what the context passage is saying about the precepts of God being like a piece of splendid armour.

Metaphors are peppered throughout this passage of scripture:

1.    Ephesians 6:14
The two keywords are truth and righteousness with the respective metaphors of belt and breastplate.

2.    Ephesians 6:15
The metaphor of shoes or footwear is used for the keyword of peace.

3.    Ephesians 6:16
The keyword is faith and the metaphor is shield.
