We are now on the third and final track of John
19:38-42. It is set in the
context of the care of Jesus’ body as written in John
19:31-42.
As we have just witnessed, we can get
more information about Jesus from the various accounts of His life by different
writers. Here in the Book of John, we
gather that it was both Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus who buried
Jesus. Who was Nicodemus? He was the Pharisee who had a conversation
about the new birth with Jesus at night. This account can be found in John
3:1-21.
As
such, the tenet of John 19:38-42 is:
“Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea
buried Jesus”.
There is an important point to
highlight from the context passage; “These
things took place to fulfill the Scripture”. The beloved Son of
God came in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth to fulfill every Messianic
credential foretold by God the Father.
The fulfilment of the Messianic credentials by the beloved Son of God in
the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth is peppered all over the four Gospels.
