We
are now at the first checkpoint of Luke
23:50. It is
also set in the context of the burial of Jesus as recorded in Luke
23:48-56.
Luke 23:50 provides us with a bit more
information about Joseph. He was not
only a member of the Jewish High Court but also a good and honourable man.
Why was this bit of information
given? By the fact that Jesus of
Nazareth was buried in the tomb of a good and honourable man, it effectively
tantamount to a ruling of innocence and therein underscored the fact that Jesus
of Nazareth died for wrongs He did not commit.
Therefore,
the essence of Luke 23:50 is:
“A good and honourable Joseph
buried Jesus of Nazareth”.
