We
are now at the station of Galatians
3:13. It is set in the context of faith bringing righteousness as
recorded in Galatians
3:10-14.
We
have earlier seen that Jesus of Nazareth was first scourged by the Roman
soldiers before He was hung on the tree.
If Jesus of Nazareth had died and then hanged on the tree, He would have
already paid the penalty for our sin. But
He survived the scourging and was then hung on the tree. This was done to purchase our freedom from
the curse of the Law.
When
Israel chose to crucify the beloved Son of God in the Person of Jesus of
Nazareth, they proclaimed that the blood of Jesus would be on them and their
children as mentioned in Matthew
27:24-25, Living
Bible. From 1
John 1:7, we see that the blood of Jesus cleanses all sin. While on the cross, the beloved Son of God in
the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth pronounced forgiveness over Israel as written in
Luke
23:33-34. Such is
the love and mercy of God toward His beloved children. The loving Father has
already paved the way for His erring children to return to Him even in the
midst of their error.
The thrust of the verse is:
“Freed and redeemed from the curse of the Law by Christ crucified”.
