We are now on the third trail of Deuteronomy 26:18-19.
The verse is set in the context of the confession of
the LORD as God. Does it not remind you
of Romans 10:9? In that verse, it is stated that “because if
you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved.” The context passage points to
the ultimate confession of faith in Christ Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour.
In Deuteronomy 26:17-19, we see that
because Israel openly confessed the LORD to be their God, they have become
God’s treasured possession. It looked
ahead to the time of salvation when believers in Christ Jesus will be reunited
to God as His beloved children. We see
this truth in Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:6.
Therefore, the crux of Deuteronomy 26:18-19 is:
“God’s treasured possession; His beloved children”.
