We are now on the second trail of Deuteronomy 7:6. The verse is set in the context of the love
and faithfulness or integrity of God.
From the context passage, it is mentioned that Israel
was a holy people set apart to God, His own possession. 1 Peter 2:5 and 1 Peter 2:9-10 come to mind immediately.
We saw in 1 Peter 2:5 that believers are like
living stones being built up into a spiritual house for a holy and dedicated
priesthood to offer sacrifices that are acceptable and pleasing to God through
Christ Jesus. Romans 12:1 tells us to present our
bodies, dedicating all of ourselves and set apart as a living sacrifice, holy
and well-pleasing to God, which is our rational, logical, intelligent
act of worship. From 1 Peter 2:9-10,
we gather that the chosen nation refers to believers in Christ Jesus.
The essence of Deuteronomy 7:6 is therefore:
“The chosen nation of believers in Christ”.
