We are now at the second signpost of Genesis 17:8.  The verse is set in the context of the covenant of circumcision as recorded in Genesis 17:6-10.

We learn from Colossians 2:11-12 that the physical circumcision is a type of the spiritual circumcision of Christ where the sinful nature would be cut away.  It seems from the passage of scripture that water baptism symbolizes that spiritual circumcision.  Galatians 3:7 says that it is the people who live by faith who are the true descendants of Abraham and not his natural offspring.  This truth is also stated in Romans 9:6-13.

The crux of Genesis 17:8 is:

“The Promised Land of Canaan”.
