John 7:39 is set in the context of Jesus teaching on the last and most important day of the Festival of Tabernacles or Festival of Booths. The context passage of John 7:37-44 opens with the words “On the last and most important day of the feast”. From John 7:1, we know that it was the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles or Booths. It was on the last day of the last festival that Jesus spoke about the rivers of flowing water.
John 7:39
explains that the “rivers of flowing water” refers to
the indwelling Holy Spirit Who will be sent to the world after the ascension of
