We are now at the
third checkpoint of Hebrews 3:5. It is set in the context of Jesus our
High Priest as recorded in Hebrews 3:1-6.
It is stated in Hebrews
3:5 that the ministry of Moses testified to the things that were to be
spoken later; the revelation that will come in Christ. The questions is, “What things?” The answer is found in Galatians 3:23-24. We were kept in custody under the Law for the
faith that was destined to be revealed in Christ Jesus. That faith is revealed in Romans 10:8-10. The Law was
our tutor that leads to Christ crucified, the gift of free pardon. This gift of free pardon is to be received by
putting our trust or faith in what Jesus has accomplished. By the grace of God, He sent His only beloved
Son to pay for the penalty of our sins for our acquittal. The way we get acquitted is to believe that
the beloved Son of God has indeed come in the flesh to be crucified and
resurrected. Those things that Moses
testified to can probably be summed up by Romans 1:17 and Philippians 3:9:
In Christ Jesus is the righteousness of God revealed and found.
It is for this reason
that Ephesians 2:8-9 says that we are
saved by grace through faith. Galatians 3:17-19 tells us that the
Law was given to make people conscious of the sinfulness of sin with Moses as
the mediator until the Promised Seed would come. We see from the Galatian passage that “The Law came into existence 430 years later
after the covenant concerning the coming Messiah”. To me, that “covenant
concerning the Messiah” was none other than the Abrahamic Covenant. And from
that same passage, we are clearly told that the Seed mentioned in Genesis 3:15 referred to none other
than the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
